Thirty-six candidates earn the Fiscal Champion endorsement ahead of Colorado’s 2026 general election

DENVER—CFI Action Fund today announced its first-ever slate of candidate endorsements, naming 36 Fiscal Champions running for the Colorado House and Senate in the 2026 general election.

CFI Action Fund is a new 501(c)(4) advocacy organization created by the Colorado Fiscal Institute to hold elected officials accountable for their tax and budget choices. That work became more urgent after the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), was signed into law July 4, 2025, changed the federal tax code and reduced Colorado revenue by an estimated $1 billion in fiscal year 2025-26, creating a major budget shortfall. Colorado lawmakers must now decide which public services to protect, whether working families and everyday taxpayers will shoulder the cost, whether billionaires and corporations will be asked to pay more, and how the state should step up when the federal government steps back.

“We set a high bar for the Fiscal Champion endorsement, and we intend to keep it there,” said Kathy White, executive director of CFI Action Fund. “Colorado needs lawmakers who understand the consequences of tax and budget decisions, tell voters the truth about those choices, and stand by their commitments when the pressure is on. Our support comes with an expectation of accountability.”

The people who rely on public services are also the people who fund them. Coloradans of every age, income, and immigration status pay taxes and use shared systems like roads, schools, and health care. The Fiscal Champion endorsement recognizes candidates prepared to protect that shared investment, explain their decisions honestly, and stand by their commitments when the votes get difficult, rather than favoring millionaires and corporations out of fear they will leave Colorado or take jobs with them. The endorsements were approved by the CFI Action Fund board following an extensive review of the candidates’ policy positions, records, and understanding of the tax and budget issues facing Colorado.

Each endorsed candidate demonstrated the six qualities CFI Action Fund expects from a Fiscal Champion:

  • Supports fair taxes that ask the wealthy and corporations to pay their share
  • Protects schools, health care, child care, and services Coloradans count on
  • Tells voters the truth about TABOR, revenue limits, and budget choices
  • Names who benefits when public dollars are cut, capped, or diverted
  • Shows how they would raise and spend Colorado’s public dollars responsibly
  • Stays accountable after Election Day, especially when votes get hard

The organization will also track the actions and votes of endorsed candidates and compare them with the commitments they made during the endorsement process. The same high standards used to award the Fiscal Champion endorsement will be used to hold elected officials accountable after Election Day.
